Updated Pirates Unique Treasure Reference Sheet

Arr everyone!

I’ve updated the Unique Treasures Reference Sheet to include both Rise of the Fiends and Fire & Steel. The only UTs not on the list are the LE UTs from RotF (since they were never distributed as prize support). If WizKids sends out those UTs, and if they are different than their non-LE versions, I’ll add them to the list. Continue Reading »

PoCS:Rise of the Fiends Checklists Leaked

Fire and Steel Checklist 2

Fire and Steel Checklist 1I just found these on the WizKids boards yesterday. Apparently, a Pirates player in Germany go hold of the checklist for Fire & Steel, the next set of Pirates of the Cursed Seas that isn’t due out until April 9th. Continue Reading »

Lions and Vultures, Bunnies and Mules in PotSM: Part 6 – British Vultures

Many years ago, in Autoduel Quarterly (a magazine dedicated to the Car Wars board game), there was an article titled “Lions, Vultures and Bunnies“. The article described several types of vehicles you could build in the game: the Lion (big guns, quick kills), the Vulture (faster, decent guns, killed weakened opponents), and Bunnies (speed, speed and more speed).

I was thinking recently that these persona could be applied to various Pirates of the Spanish Main ships. Plus, in PotSM, gold cargo is important, so I added an additional category for the Mules (slow, but able to carry lots of gold).

Lions and Vultures, Bunnies and Mules in PotSM: Part 5 – British Lions

So, here is the fifth installment of a recurring series of articles: Lions and Vultures, Bunnies and Mules in PotSM: Part 6 – British Vultures.

HMS OxfordBritish ships like the HMS Oxford (4 short #2 cannons, move of S+L) and the HMS NautilusHMS Nautilus (2 short #2 and 1 long #2 cannons, move of S+L) are some of the best Vultures. Put a Helmsman on them, and they have very good speed, plus they have accurate cannons for sinking damaged ships. Ships like the HMS Algiers (2 long #2 cannons, S+S move) would work in a pinch, especially since the HMS Algiers has the “Once per turn, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, this ship may be given an extra action” ability.

HMS BolingbrokeOther good Vultures include the HMS Bolingbroke (2 short #2 and 1 long #2 cannons, S+S movement), or the HMS Auckland (2 short #2s and 1 short #3 cannons, S+L movement).

How to handle them: Vultures tend to have fewer masts than Lions, so outgunning them is always an option. The rarely used Chainshot Specialist will stop them in their tracks for a turn, giving you another chance to sink them. Or, you could use the old favorites of Becalmed or Mermaids.

Next Time: British Bunnies!
